After a headline-capturing divorce, “Gossip Girl” star Kelly Rutherford and her ex-husband, German businessman Daniel Giersch, who was deported one year ago, were granted joint custody of their children, 6-year-old Hermes and 3-year-old Helena. But because Kelly’s ex can’t return to the United States, the judge ruled that the children would be sent to live in France with their father— away from their mother, their friends and the home they’ve known since birth.
Caroline Fina, a friend of Kelly’s, just launched a petition on Change.org to help bring her friends’ kids home to the US after the family was torn apart by what some have called “one of the worst custody decisions ever.”
Says Caroline: “I want you to know that Kelly is not your average mother. She is the mom who sews the Spiderman mask back together when it rips, the mom who has lollipops in her purse at all times just in case she comes across a child crying, at school, at the airport, anywhere. She is the mom who will eat the crazy-looking birthday cake her kids made for her, just because it’s made of love. Kelly is a caring and generous friend, and most importantly, a truly exceptional mother. To see her now, separated from Hermes and Helena, enduring the worst possible agony a mother can experience, pushes me to reach out for help.”
